How do I know which level of play is appropriate for my child?

In general, your child should play based on their little league age range (info below). Based on baseball ability, your child could be placed one level up or down.

What is the draft?

For AAA and Majors, FCLL builds teams for the spring season via a draft. All of the players attend an evaluation session in January.  Afterwards, managers of each division draft players one round at a time. It is up to the manager to select a participant for any given division. The league can't guarantee a participant will be chosen to any specific division. However, every player will be selected for a team.  For other divisions and for all Fall Ball divisions, teams are built by the league, taking into consideration balanced teams and buddy requests - when applies.

What is the difference between Age and Baseball Age?

Baseball age is set by Little League International and is the age your child will be as of August 31. This means that some kids will have an older baseball age than their actual current age.  See the 2025 Little League Age Chart.

If we live outside of the boundary for Foster City, can my child still play in your league?

Starting with the 2025 season, children at the youngest level of Little League Baseball (League Age 4-7) will have the ability to register for any Little League program they choose, without respect to any geography- or school-related eligibility requirements. Those players who register under this option will also be fully eligible to participate in all aspects of league play, including International Tournament play, for the duration of their Little League careers provided they have continuous and unbroken participation from the time they are League Age seven within the specific league where initially registered and provided all other participation eligibility requirements have been met.

Players League Age 8 or older as of the 2025 season (born before September 1, 2017 for Baseball) will continue to utilize the current boundary requirement based on residency or school enrollment. Opportunities and waivers will continue to be available as an option for players should they be interested in switching leagues that are outside of these requirements, based on approval and potential stipulations from the Little League International Charter Committee.

Can you tell me the schedule for practices and games in advance?

The short answer is no, we can't determine the exact dates of the practices and games before the registration is closed. This is due the nature of our volunteer-run basis: in order to complete the schedule we need to know how many teams we will have. Based on the number of registrants, we get need to get more coaches. Our coaches are also volunteers, we do our best effort to match the availability of the coaches with the availability of the fields the city offers, in the case of games we also do the same within our teams and for upper division, we may also need coordination with other cities - which are also run by volunteers. Your practice schedule will depend on the team your player is assigned to, which is tied to the availability of your coach and fields, the game schedule will be a combination of availability of both teams and fields.

Given the complex of schedule and availability of all the parties, Foster City Little League ask for your comprehension in this matter. As parents we understand you want to be sure your player(s) will be attending practices and games and try to plan ahead, but sadly is not possible due all the aforementioned. We can tell for sure that all the practices and games will be held after the normal ours of our local schools (San Mateo Foster City School District), and will take in considerations their calendar in order to not interfere with your kids education.

As guardian you can help us with to have all the schedules ready by:

- Register as soon as possible once the registration system is open
- In the registration form you can disclose in advanced what other activities the player may have
- Wait for the communication with your assigned coach, you can coordinate with them the current and future schedule of their practices and games
