A Rules

  • Overview of Ages

    • Single A is a non-competitive, instructional division focused on player development. Our goal is development over competition. Every player learns. Every player plays.

  • Expectations

    • Emphasis on learning basic skills and teamwork without pressure to win. No scores or standings kept.

  • Parent Expectations

    • Encourage effort, not results

    • No coaching from stands

    • Let kids learn through mistakes

  • Batting Rules

    • Lineup: Continuous batting order used throughout the season.

    • Attempts:

      • 1st Half of Season: Each batter will receive up to five coach pitches. If the fifth pitch is deemed not hittable, the batter will receive one additional pitch. If the fifth pitch is deemed hittable and the batter either swings and misses or does not attempt to swing, the batter will be retired; however, no out will be recorded.

        • To encourage increased contact and base running during the early portion of the season, the coach may elect to introduce a hitting tee after the fourth pitch. In such cases, the fifth attempt will be made from the tee. Every reasonable effort should be made to allow the batter to successfully put the ball in play from the tee before the at-bat is concluded.

      • 2nd Half of Season: Each batter will receive up to five coach pitches. If the fifth pitch is deemed not hittable, the batter will receive one additional pitch. If the batter fails to make contact on the final attempt, the batter will be retired; no out will be recorded.

    • Safety: No on-deck circle. Thrown bat leads to warning, then loss of at-bat.

  • Fielding Rules

    • Format: 10 defensive players (4 outfielders). All players rotate between infield and outfield during the season.

    • Playing Time: Minimum 4 innings per game (2 infield, 2 outfield).

    • Positioning: Outfielders must be 20 ft behind bases.

  • Pitching Rules

    • Format: Coach pitch exclusively. Coaches pitch to their own team.

    • Dead Ball: When a defensive player has control of the ball within the pitcher’s circle, play is dead. Runners must return to the last base legally touched.

  • Game Play Rules

    • Length: Max 6 innings. No new inning after 90 mins; hard stop at 1 hr 45 mins.

    • Inning End: Sides change after 3 outs OR entire roster has batted once.

    • Base Running: Bunting, stealing, and sliding not allowed. Runners may take one extra base on an overthrow.
